Fall Season Underway

Hey there,

Fall season is officially underway, which means it's time for another update from your favorite team in all the MCLA.

The team has been solidified and chemistry is building nicely. Our last newsletter got some...let's call it mixed feedback from a few alumni who found us a bit much. Par for the course for us, honestly.

But while some complaint emails were written, some wallets were also opened - and we're beyond grateful for that support. So we're rolling with it.

What We've Been Up To

Tryouts wrapped up and we're feeling good. The freshmen are eager and talented - they keep falling for the “how does your stick throw?” bit and have to chase down their stick after it gets hurled across the field, yet they're still making some of the older players nervous about starting positions. What are they feeding the class of 2029?

We also picked up some solid transfers from Fairfield, Colgate, Lander, and Newberry who are fitting right in. Coach Spidell actually said he's optimistic about this season, which is roughly equivalent to seeing a unicorn. Coaches Carlson and Coleman are killing it as staff additions, and Coach Tobias continues his usual dominance.

Big things are planned for this fall, including an alumni weekend we're excited about (alums, see below). Beach weekend delivered on team chemistry - nothing builds bonds quite like our annual freshman wedding tradition, and this year's couple might have actually meant their vows.

Coastal Carolina Bails, We Pivot

This brings us to this weekend and a perfect example of club lacrosse chaos. We had a scrimmage lined up with Coastal Carolina, then exactly one week before game day, they decided they didn't want to make the trip. Lesson learned: never trust a Chanticleer. Chicken mascots in general seem unreliable - though at least the Gamecocks are honest about wanting to beat us.

Either way, we're pivoting. This Sunday at 2 PM, we're splitting the team in half for an inter-squad scrimmage. Stay tuned to our Instagram for the live stream link. We're guaranteed to win and guaranteed to lose, I’m sure there’s a metaphor in there somewhere. And, it’ll probably be more competitive than whatever you'll see in Death Valley Saturday.
